Belgian town hall in two countries

A town hall cut in two by the border and thus located in two countries? That’s the town hall of Baarle-Hertog. You can witness this borderline as it is marked by leds in the facade of the building and inside in the council chamber. During council meetings, some council members actually govern the interior from abroad! For weddings to be legally executed, the marriage act needs to be signed at the Belgian part of the chamber. The borderline also runs though the police office, where Belgian and Dutch police officers work side by side. Police statements and interrogations are done in the country where the officer has his jurisdiction.
