When we asked the resident of this house (Annie van Gils) what she thought should be on her wall, her answer was, "the Maria Hemelvaartkerk has to come back!" Annie has lived in this place all her life and is therefore full of special stories about the area. Also about the former church, which she visited regularly as a little girl.
We invited Isakov (UA) to carry out Annie's wish on her house. He created a design inspired by the Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk, better known as Maria Hemelvaartkerk, which was built in the late 19th century on the spot where you can now find the Houtmarkt passage. The church was designed by Juriën van Langelaar and is considered his best design. The church was closed in the 1960s and was eventually demolished, despite local residents protesting vehemently against it.
