The Monument to King-Governor William III is an equestrian statue on the Kasteelplein in the inner city of Breda (in the city center district). It can be found within walking distance of Breda Castle and the Begijnhof. The statue was unveiled on October 8, 1921 and was designed by Toon Dupuis.
In 1902, a National Committee was formed to erect a statue to Willem III in the Netherlands. The choice to place it in Breda was due to the close ties the city had with the House of Orange-Nassau.
Prince William III of Orange-Nassau was governor (of Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht, Gelderland, Overijssel and Drenthe) from 1672 to 1702, and heir to Breda. He was also king of England, Scotland and Ireland, from 1689 to 1702.
