Until 1812 this park served as a castle garden for the Lords of Breda. The park owes its name to a falcon house, which stood on the edge of it and from where the castle residents and their guests practiced falconry. The park was originally a real forest with high trees. In the seventeenth century that character disappeared with the construction of a French-style garden.
One replica of the seventeen statues stands further in the park, in a specially laid out flowerbed. This flowerbed is a reminder of the French style garden. The original statue of Hercules can be seen in the Holland Casino Breda. During excavations in the park the foundations of a medieval wall tower and of the stone wall which surrounded 'small Breda' until 1537 were found. Of two wall towers a small piece has been built again.
